Olympic Archery

In addition to the activities related to conducting tournaments of traditional archery, the Federation is also responsible for the activities of the Olympic Archery and participation of the Olympic team in regional and international tournaments. The Federation currently supports 20 archers - 13 boys and 7 girls. The archers participate in 2-3 international tournaments every year. The participation is intended to provide maximum exposure to international level competitions. This becomes especially important in our context as we have no national level competitions as the pool of Olympic archers is limited to the ones that are being managed by the BAF. Selection competitions are held prior to participation in the tournament and the top three or top four men and women are selected to participate.

The Olympic team suffers from the absence of a professional coach. After the departure of the Korean coach under whom the team made great improvements and even won some medals at the regional level, there has been a stagnation in their performance. At the moment, the team is looked after and coached by one of the senior players who has been designated as the Coach though she does not have any formal training to be a coach. The Federation is in the process of procuring the services of a Korean coach through the KOICA programme and we have received indications that one will be despatched by the beginning of next year.
